They were produced between 1966 and 1977 with the first model introduced called 1600-2. It was offered as two-door convertible and coupe, and 3-door hatchback. It was cheaper but with a worse reputation than the New Class Sedan. It was suitable for sports competitions. Approximately 26 000 were manufactured. 1600 was renamed to 1602 in 1971. It was with 1.6 liters M10 engine with 84hp. It was considered excellent for its price. A faster version was introduced in 1967 with 110hp, under the name 1600 TI. In the same year, a cabriolet was launched. In 1971 was proposed a hatchback. 2002 was introduced with a single and dual carburetor with 101hp and 119hp respectively as a 4-door sedan. In 1969 a version with an automatic transmission became available under the name Automatic, with ZF 3HP12 3-speed automatic transmission.In 1971 the engine was updated to 2 liters, and the Touring became available with all the engines from 02 Series. Tii replaced Ti, with a 130hp engine. Turbo version was also launched with 170hp, KKK turbocharger, and Kugel Fischer fuel injection. In 1971, 1802 was also introduced as 3-door Touring hatchback and 2-door sedan. In the same year were updated a facelift, two-piece instrument cluster and wraparound bumpers. In 1973 new grille and kidney trim was also added. The production ended in 1975. In 1975 was introduced an economical car under the name 1502, with 1573 cc, and remained in production until 1977, while the other models were replaced two years earlier by E21 3 series. It became the base model. Approximately 138 000 vehicles were produced from the 02 Series.
